Course Overview
This course is an introduction into Obtaining References and is aimed at aspiring members of the Senior Leadership Team, newly appointed Line Managers, members of the Governing Body and School Business Managers new to the role.
Intended Outcomes
This course will provide you with knowledge with Obtaining References and will provide you with knowledge to understand the following;
- The reasons why an employer should obtain a reference;
- Written and verbal references;
- When a reference should be sought out;
- From whom should the reference be sought;
- The do’s and don'ts of requesting and interpreting references;
- Gaining consent before obtaining a reference;
- The legal duties in respect of seeking references;
- How the Equality Act 2010 effects how you obtain a reference;
- What to do when you have an unsatisfactory reference;
- What to do when you have a discrepancy with a reference;
- Subject access requests and references; and
- Rights of access to job references.
- Terminating a fixed-term contract;

Assessment
To successfully complete the course, learners will be required to pass a short assessment.
CPD
Upon successful completion of the course learners will be issued accredited certificate to download. The course equates to 1 hour of CPD.
