Data Protection

The Rise in Complex Data Requests

About this event

As more people become aware of their data rights, schools and Trusts are seeing an increase in the amount of subject access requests (SARs) they receive, and the complexity of these requests. Whether it’s a SAR from an aggrieved employee or a disgruntled parent, a prompt and effective response is tantamount, but when they're so complex sometimes this can be a challenge.

In a recent survey we asked nearly 200 schools if they had seen an increase in the complexity of the SARs they receive and unsurprisingly nearly 50% said they have.

During the session we will be looking at:

      • How to get them right
      • How to handle data access requests and some common pitfalls to avoid
      • Can data subject access requests be refused?

Let us introduce you to this week's professional speaker

Laura Kemsley

Laura is originally from New Zealand and has a bachelor’s degree from Victoria University, Wellington. She moved to the UK four years ago and her first job in the UK was in a secondary school setting, which enabled her to understand Data Protection from a school’s point of view. When she is not helping with queries and carrying out audits, Laura loves to keep active by playing netball for a few teams in her local area and loves spending time with friends and family.
